| Abstract | A method for the direct oxidation of various N-aryl tetrahydroisoquinolines and isoindolines to the corresponding lactams using alpha-angelica lactone as a catalyst was developed. The utility of the method was further demonstrated by synthesis of indoprofen and indobufen. |
