The intercalation of cobalt - salen was done by a simple protocol, and the characterization of the intercalated catalyst was done by XPS, FTIR, and XRD techniques. A total selectivity &gt;= 90% to the oxidation products could be achieved with this solid catalyst by eliminating the undesired coupling side products in air oxidation of p-cresol under ambient pressure conditions. Effect of various process parameters on the conversion and selectivity pattern were also studied, and it was found that the selectivity ratio of aldehyde to alcohol could be varied by suitably changing the reaction conditions. This heterogeneous catalyst was found to give a 5-fold higher turnover number than the homogeneous cobalt - salen complex.</p>
<issue></issue><work-type></work-type><notes></notes><custom3></custom3><custom4></custom4></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors>

</authors></contributors><titles>

<secondary-title></secondary-title></titles><dates><year></year><pub-dates><date></date></pub-dates></dates><number></number><publisher></publisher><pub-location></pub-location><volume></volume><pages></pages>
<issue></issue><work-type></work-type><custom3></custom3><custom4></custom4></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors>

</authors></contributors><titles>

<secondary-title></secondary-title></titles><dates><year></year><pub-dates><date></date></pub-dates></dates><number></number><publisher></publisher><pub-location></pub-location><volume></volume><pages></pages>
<issue></issue><custom3></custom3><custom4></custom4></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors>

</authors></contributors><titles>

<secondary-title></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword></keyword><keyword></keyword><keyword></keyword><keyword></keyword><keyword></keyword></keywords><dates><year></year><pub-dates><date></date></pub-dates></dates><number></number><publisher></publisher><pub-location></pub-location><volume></volume><pages></pages>
<p>Liquid phase oxidation of p-cresol was carried out over a Co-saponite catalyst in a temperature and pressure range of 333-393 K and 20-827 kPa, respectively in n-propanol.
