This procedure is capable of performing speciation of As (III) and As (V). Thiamine present in the sample can also be measured by this procedure. Filter-plug inserted inside the reactor cap fixes the hydrogen sulfide gas generated in the reactor vessel. Arsenic along with the hydrogen sulfide is measured by substituting the filter plug with cotton plug without the sulfide absorbent. The hydrogen sulfide also produces pink stain in the detector tube. Arsenic and thiamine are found to be in the molar ratio of 1:1. For determining total As, the arsenate is converted to arsenite by a catalyst incorporated in the reagent, which is converted to arsine by sodium borohydride. The main As species detected in rice samples was inorganic As (III), which is consistent with the reported results. It takes only about 20 minutes to analyze one sample of rice. The present procedure can also analyze biological samples like urine, hair etc.</style>
</record></records></xml>
