Unlike the conventional Sommelet-Hauser rearrangement of ammonium salts, the methodology developed herein requires neither harsh conditions nor strong bases. Moreover, a temperature dependent switchable selectivity for the Sommelet-Hauser and Stevens [1,2] rearrangements has been observed.&lt;/p&gt;
